The Shot Heard ‘Round the World’
Grand GOP solemnly remembers this day, April 19, 1775 as the Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought between a heavily armed British military unit intent on destroying 3 cannons in a militia depot, and independent-minded colonial working-class citizens who refused to comply in turning over heavy weaponry to them. This was in effect the first open battle of the American Revolution, the “shot heard round the world”, and a culmination of events that led to inclusion of the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights many years later at the Constitutional Convention.
