Grand County Republicans welcomed Greg Lopez, President of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans organization to our monthly Central Committee Meeting held in Granby Nov 6. Mr. Lopez was a candidate for Governor of Colorado in 2020 and 2024 and would have made a great governor!  Not being a fade away candidate Mr. Lopez cares deeply about Colorado’s future, thus he continues to dedicate great personal effort towards the political arena.

During the pre-meeting meal Mr. Lopez described how as a native of Texas, he was the first high school graduate in his extended family. Moving to Colorado for his wife’s job, he was asked to run and was elected as mayor of Parker, CO.  As his children grew he was then asked to apply for the position of Director of the Federal Small Business Administration for Colorado.  He helped over 260 small businesses flourish during his tenure but ran afoul of President Obama’s Administration when he called out the Veterans Administration for not paying funds owed to the small business contractors when the VA’s new Fitzsimmons Hospital accumulated massive cost over-runs, which was something the administration did not appreciate being covered by the news media.  After completion of his gubernatorial efforts, Mr. Lopez accepted an offer to lead the Colorado Hispanic Republicans.

Mr. Lopez’ presentation at our meeting highlighted the message that conservative Republican values ARE Hispanic values.  Faith, Family, and Freedom, however according to Mr. Lopez many are not aware that these are what Republicans espouse.  Mr. Lopez’ mission is to educate the Hispanic voters of this fact.

Grand County Republicans have established an affliliate of the Colorado Hispanic Republicans to help Hispanics in Grand County to become more involved in the election process.  Contact us if you would like to participate.
